Brow Lift Plastic Surgery RecoveryDecember 10, 2017
Brow lift plastic surgery is designed to rejuvenate the appearance of brows and forehead by reducing excess skin and eliminating sagginess. The procedure is sometimes combined with eyelid surgery. Recovery process can slightly vary from one patient to another depending on the extent of surgery performed. The surgeon will discuss the recovery aspect during the pre-op consultation.
People who are working and busy moms should have a clear idea about the estimated downtime involved in a brow lift, and make a well-considered choice. Commitment to the recovery process is the key to the overall success of the procedure.
Remarkable, cordial, and board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie MD provides brow lift to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding locations in this area of The Golden State.
Expected Side Effects
A few minor side effects are expected after brow lift surgery, which will usually resolve on their own. The surgeon may use a less invasive brow lift technique such as an endoscopic brow lift, which will minimize the side effects. Common side effects include:
- Swelling and bruising in the incision sites
- Tingling or stinging
- Numbness or altered sensation
- Mild pain and general discomfort
Early Recovery Period
The surgeon will recommend the patient to apply ice around the brows and forehead at frequent intervals during the first two days after the surgery. This will improve the swelling and provide comfort. The patient should sleep with the head in a raised position in the first few days. Some soreness in the forehead and brows may be felt, which can be managed with prescription pain medications in the first three to four days.
Bruising may not be very pronounced in case of a brow lift, but swelling will be conspicuous in the first few days. From the second week, swelling will rapidly subside but complete elimination will occur over several weeks. Patients can usually take a bath or shower in about two days after the surgery. In any case, they should avoid using swimming pool, sauna and steam bath, hot water tub and hair dryer for a few weeks.
If traditional sutures have been placed, the surgeon will likely remove them in about a week after the surgery. In the first week at home the patient should perform short walks and light weeks to maintain a healthy blood flow in the incision sites. Vigorous exercises and lifting of heavy weights, however, must be avoided for about three weeks after a brow lift.
The patient will be instructed to keep the incision areas free from contamination and touch as far as possible in the first few days. They can use extra pillows to keep the head elevated in the first week. Ice packs should be used in the first two days.
Prescription cream, if any, should be applied as instructed to help minimize scarring. The patient should strictly avoid smoking for a specified period before and after the brow lift. Profound and kind plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie MD receives patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and nearby areas for brow lift.
