Procedure Steps for Brow Lift Plastic SurgeryMay 5, 2018
A forehead lift or brow lift aesthetic surgery is often performed using endoscopic techniques and short incisions that are less invasive. Mostly, the incisions are made in an area of the scalp that bears hair. However, the surgeon may place the incisions in the forehead in specific cases.
If there is a requirement for a major correction in the tissue and muscle, then the surgeon may use long incision brow lift or open brow lift.
During the initial consultation, the surgeon will describe the multiple steps involved in a brow lift procedure. This will enable the patient to develop a better understanding of the procedure as well as feel more confident about the brow lift surgery.
Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie MD provides brow lift surgery to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding locations.
Open Brow Lift
The patient will receive local anesthesia or sedation to ensure that they are comfortable during the procedure. Subsequently, the surgeon will place a long incision on the forehead. They may place it in a forehead crease or around the hairline to ensure that any potential scarring is inconspicuous.
The surgeon will eliminate surplus fat and tighten lax muscles through this incision. Any surplus skin will be taken out, and the surgeon will tighten the remaining skin. They will place sutures to position the brow to appear more youthful and rejuvenated.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
After local anesthesia, the surgeon will place tiny incisions in the scalp. Through this incision, the surgeon will insert an endoscope with a video camera attached to it. The minute camera will offer the surgeon a view of the internal structures of the forehead enabling them to tighten the skin. This procedure is different from an open brow lift. It minimizes patient discomfort and downtime.
Limited Incision Brow Lift
This technique is a hybrid of components of both endoscopic and open brow lift procedures. The surgeon will place tiny incisions to lift the outer portion of the brows without using an endoscope. Though this technique will not address the central eyebrow area, it can mitigate wrinkles and fine lines at the eye corners, more commonly known as crow’s feet.
The ideal brow lift procedure for a patient depends on their facial anatomy as well as aesthetic goals.
If the brow lift procedure is performed along with another surgery, the steps will vary slightly. In most cases, sagging brows coincide with drooping upper eyelids and surplus eyelid skin. The surgeon will need to address all these conditions to achieve results that appear natural.
A comprehensive surgical plan will be developed in an individualized manner with consideration to the patient’s hairstyle choices, natural hairline, and personal cosmetic goals. The surgeon will design a surgical plan that causes minimal scarring and offers ideal cosmetic results which are natural looking and sustainable in the long run.
