Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery) Procedure StepsJanuary 20, 2017
Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to enhance the shape or size of the nose to achieve an overall more attractive facial appearance. At the time of pre-op consultation, the nose surgeon will discuss various steps involved in the rhinoplasty procedure. Familiarity with the procedure will help to relieve a patient’s pre-operative anxiety to a considerable extent.
Although a number of different approaches to rhinoplasty can be adopted, depending on the unique cosmetic needs of the patient, but the steps involved in the procedure will largely remain unchanged. Patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding locations have an opportunity to receive rhinoplasty and various other procedures from board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie MD.
Initial Consultation Process
Prior to the rhinoplasty procedure, the patient will have to go through a detailed consultation process. This will give an opportunity to the patient to ask questions and clarify all their doubts and concerns with regard to the procedure and the surgeon’s practice.
The surgeon will closely engage with the patient to determine their aesthetic goals, evaluate their nasal and facial structure and the quality of skin in the nasal area, and review their health records to determine if they are suitable candidates or not.
Following the consultation process, the surgeon will give some time to the patient for pre-surgical preparation. At the same time, the surgeon will work with the patient to determine the specific nose surgery technique and whether it will be performed as an open or closed procedure.
The choice of anesthesia, location of incisions, and the choice of surgical venue will be decided at this stage. A customized surgical plan will help to create targeted outcomes in the least invasive manner. Experienced plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie MD receives patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and nearby areas for rhinoplasty.
Rhinoplasty procedure will be performed with the patient under general or local anesthesia with sedation as predetermined during surgical planning. An anesthesiologist or registered anesthetist nurse will be present during the surgery to monitor the patient’s response. Any adverse reaction to anesthesia can be anticipated early and the condition can be brought under control when an expert is present for monitoring.
Depending on the degree of correction required, the surgeon will apply open or closed rhinoplasty technique. In the open technique, a minor incision will be placed in the columella through which the changes will be performed. The surgeon will add, remove, or modify the tissue from the nasal area during the surgery.
Closed rhinoplasty technique will be applied if limited correction is needed. Tiny scars will be made inside the nostrils to perform this surgery, and no external scarring will occur. In a few cases, rhinoplasty surgery may involve insertion of synthetic implants or cartilage or bone grafts, depending on the patient’s goals.
Once the necessary improvements to the nose shape and size are made, the incisions will be closed with absorbable or traditional sutures. Nasal packing may be temporarily applied to give support to the nose.
